LXH2 Morph Pedal Last updated 05-12-06

I am proud to introduce my Morph pedal!

This Morph Pedal was the result of several discussions with users of the amp simulators on this website. The ability to seamlessly morph between the sound of the fender and marshall simulators seamed like a great idea. To switch between these with a footswitch always left me in limbo land. Way too abrupt. A switch with a predetermined time constant was thought about, but lacked the ultimate control of the player. So I thought up the idea of using a spare DeArmond volume pedal to be modified to operate as foot controlled variable source controller. To use it is simple. In heel position, it is a fender. In the toe position it is a marshall. The control is exactly at your foot. Change sounds as slow or fast as you like. Have any percentage of each as you like, in real time.

The D'Armond pedal must be modified to accomodate this circuit. You need to be able to provide full travel of the potentiometer, and provide mechanical stops at the ends of travel to prevent damage to the potentiometer.

You will need to modify a DeArmond 1602 volume pedal. Add an adjustable locking end stop setpoint using a locking nut as shown in picture.

Use rubber bumpers at toe end for proper end stop. Shown here are 1/8" thick.

Change potentiometer to the radio shack dual 100k audio pot. Use only one section. The other section in this case is a spare. Wire as shown and according to the schematic.

Carefully adjust position of the the new pot to facilitate smooth action. Use set screw on pinion gear to provide full rotation of the pot. You will need to adjust the stops in each extreme position and the pinion set screw. When properly adjusted, the rotation of the pot will not be exceeded by the action of the pedal at either extreme. Do not let the end stops of the pot be what limits pedal extremes. Have the mechanical stops do that. The leverage provided by the foot pedal will destroy the pot if not adjusted correctly!

The morph pedal is connected to the amp simulators as shown in the schematic. Keep the cables between the amp simulators and the pedal to a minimum. The input cables to the morph pedal should be seperate and only join at the pedal jack to prevent capacitive crosstalk.
