From the Latin term 'Doggus Maxximus'. . . . . . . .Maxximum Dog
Meet Maxx! He was adopted from the SPCA after being lost in Hurricane Floyd in September, 1999. Nine months old at the time, this "lab-mix" was a companion dog for Pita, the princess, a 15 yr. old terrier mix. At two years old, we started agility class with the Keystone Agility Club (rather late for most dogs) and he soon became much more confident and sociable. In his first trial, Maxx earned a leg toward his novice jumpers title!

The 2002 Agility season is under way and Maxx has performed quite well!
He has several 3rd place ribbons to his credit, a second place in novice jumpers,
and his first BLUE RIBBON in Snooker.

Now that the weather has cooled down, we are back on the Agility circuit. And that elusive qualifying run is ours! Maxx earned a First Place with a 'Q' in USDAA Performance-1 Standard at the Flexible Flyers Trial. Two more Firsts and qualifying runs followed at Kruisin' Kanines NADAC trial two weeks later.

MAXX Earns NADAC Novice Standard Title!

With two First Place Qualifying Runs on Sat. Nov. 2, 2002, Maxx completed his
Novice Title. After moving up to the Open class the next day he won two Firsts.
We have one more event this year where Maxx will compete as a Novice one more
time and attempt to complete
his Jumpers title.

MAXX Earns NADAC Novice Jumpers Title!
On our last opportunity of the year, Maxx ran for 2nd place and Qualified
for his NADAC Jumpers title at the 'Live to Run Again' Trial indoors in Aston, PA.
It was a quest which began with a 'Q' in Oct. 2001. It ended with a pulled hamstring
for me, the handler, with 2 more standard runs to go, and Maxx having earned
two Novice titles for the year. Training continues for next year's OPEN class.

2003
MAXX Runs with the Big Dogs

As a part of 'Leader of the Pack's' Spring trial I entered Maxx in the Gran Prix Qualifier. The dogs who achieved a qualifying score in this event would go on to be eligible for the Nationals in the fall. Usually Maxx runs in the Novice Performance class and jumps at a height of 16". For this run he would be required to jump at the Championship height of 22" on a Masters level course. The course consisted of 20 obstacles including two double jumps (which are not used in the Performance level) and more direction changes than we are used to. Competitors were also faced with adverse course conditions due to cold, high winds and intermitent rains. We started our run on the course tentitively at first but picking up speed as we went and ended up with a clean, no fault run. Although not fast enough to qualify, Maxx received a rousing cheer from the crowd including fellow club members and former instructors who knew that this was a truly special effort. "Maxx ran his ass off for you" said one former instructor "You should be very proud of him". And I am! Then barely 15 minutes later we ran in Performance -1 class and scored a clean-run 4th place out of ten.

Maxx and I sharing a moment after our title winning run!

This year so far

Maxx has earned his NADAC Novice Gamblers title and added a 'Q' in USDAA P-2 Standard, a 'Q' in P-2 Jumpers and 2 'Q's in P-2 Snooker, both coming at the Y-Agility trial at Blackthorn. Several 1st and 2nd place finishes also accompanied these feats. He is a happier and more motivated dog this year and these changes have been noticed by people who have watched Maxx in the past. Our busy fall schedule should prove very interesting!

MAXX and his friends, Grace & Suzie

Keystone Fall Trial Oct 23-24, 2004

It was a great weekend with 4 Firsts and 4 'Q's for the dynamic duo of Maxx and Grace. Maxx had 2 Blue Ribbons and a 'Q' in P-2 Standard while Grace took 1st & 'Q' in P-1 Snooker for her Snooker Title and 2 'Q's in P-2 Jumpers. Fellow members said that Maxx never looked so fast and focused as he was in his Qualifying Standard run early Sunday morning, and Grace was quicker than I expected as she finished the whole Snooker course under time. Except for two A-Frame faults, she was fast and clean on the Standard courses also for a First and Second Place.

For the first time, Maxx and Grace ran in the same class at the same time, P-2 Snooker. Running indoors on a beautiful astroturf surface, Maxx earned a FIRST and 'Q' and TITLE and Grace was 2nd due to an 'off course'. Grace later had a fast and clean run in P-2 Jumpers for her TITLE in that class. Maxx also had a 1st in P-2 Standard, narrowly missing a 'Q' (and title) in that class also.

Keystone's Summer Trial

Maxx took a big leap forward at Keystone's trial on a cool, overcast Sunday morning when he ran fast and clean for a 2nd and 'Q' in Performance-2 Standard and earned his TITLE in that class.

MAXX at Kruisin' Kanines

Maxx showed that he could still do it when he wants to by running to a 2nd and 'Q' in Open Regular
on a cool Fall morning. Maxx will be 7 years old in January and will compete as a Veteran in NADAC.
