Introducing GRACE

Puppy Grace @ 3 months

Grace is a Lemon Beagle / Terrier mix, a breed referred to as a Pennsylvania Ridgerunner, bred for hunting small game in the hills of Western PA. Now she hunts for rawhide chews and snack treats when not attacking agility courses in the back yard or at trials. She was introduced to agility at an early age because her 'big brother' Maxx is also an agility dog. Both belong to Keystone Agility Club in Barto, PA. Grace started taking formal classes at 8 months old and by the time she was eligible to compete (18 months) she was ready. In her first run she was second in P-1 Gamblers and the next day took FIRST in P-1 Jumpers. Two weeks later at her first NADAC trial Grace had 2 FIRSTS and a 'Q' in Jumpers.

So far this year

Grace has earned her Novice Gamblers Title and Novice Jumpers Title in NADAC and a 'Q' in Regular. In USDAA trials she has 2 'Q's in P-1 Standard, three P-1 Jumpers 'Q's for her Jumpers Title and three 'Q's in P-1 Snooker for her Snooker Title. Grace also took 2nd & 3rd and 2 'Q's in P-2 Jumpers at the last Keystone trial.

GRACE in Action

I finally have some action pictures of Grace, shown here at 'Y Agility' in Blackthorn, N.Y. going for her 1st & 'Q' in P-1 Standard.

Kinetic Dog at Fairhill, MD

Grace and I trekked down I-95 to slogg thru the mud at Fairhill while Maxx stayed home nursing a minor injury. We only had 3 runs for the entire weekend but had fun hanging out at the festivities and managed to miss most of the worst weather. The A-Frame contact was our only fault in the Standard run and Grace came home with a First Place.

Grace moves up!
Grace had a fast and clean run at the Keystone Agility Club Winter trial in P-2 Jumpers
taking 1st & 'Q' for her TITLE in that class.

Grace the 4-Legged Dog

June is the month for graduations and in keeping with that tradition, Grace 'graduated' from Performance-1 with three second places and 3 'Q's, 2 in Standard and one in Gamblers for her PD-1 TITLE! She accumulated a total of 4 Standard legs to go with her Titles in Snooker and Jumpers. At this USDAA trial at Flexible Flyers in Honeybrook, PA, Grace also placed 1st with a 'Q' in P-2 Snooker.

Grace goes to 'All About Animals'

On July 23 & 24, Grace and I went Bear, DE for a NADAC trial where she completed all the requirements for her NOVICE AGILITY DOG TITLE! She also got a head start toward her OPEN Titles with a 2nd and 'Q' in Jumpers and a 'Q' in Open Regular.

Grace is on the move!
KAC - Aug. 13-14

A near perfect weekend at Keystone's NADAC trial: Despite the heat, Grace had 5 first place runs in the OPEN class with 6 'Q's; 2 1/2 Regular, 2 Jumpers and a Gamble. She also finished two Titles in Open Regular and Open Jumpers which she started 3 weeks ago at AAA in Bear, DE. She also had the fastest Jumpers run of any class for the weekend. I, of course, tended to her creature comforts with fans, ice chips, dips in the wading pool and a neat new dog sports drink called 'K9 GO-DOG'. It must have helped and most certainly did not hurt. I also fed her a 'Greenie' product called 'Second Wind' as a treat between runs. We now move up to the ELITE Class for the rest of the year.

Flexible Flyers - Sept. 17-18

It was another good USDAA outing for Grace with a 1st & 'Q' in P-2 Snooker, 1st and 'Q' in
P-2 Standard, and a 2nd and 'Q' in P-3 Jumpers - her first Qualifying run at the Masters level!

Amazing Grace at Kruisin' Kanines
Oct. 1-2

Grace achieved her NADAC ELITE Regular Title as well as 2 Qualifying runs in Elite Jumpers. This summer has been very good to Grace, having gone from Novice to Elite in just three trials over a ten week period.

Two USDAA Trials in Two weeks - Fairhill & Keystone

We took a one-day trip to Fairhill, MD. for the KineticDog trial and although the weather had been threatening, it was merely overcast but dry, great Agility weather. Once again, Grace and Maxx ran in the same class - P-2 Gamblers. Grace took 1st and had the only Qualifying run in the class while Maxx was 2nd. Grace also had 1st & 'Q' in P-2 Standard and P-3 Jumpers making for a very worthwhile trip.

The following weekend at Keystone was our last planned trial of the year. Saturday was rainy and muddy but Grace still earned a 1st and 'Q' in P-2 Gamblers with Maxx coming in 4th after a fall off of the dogwalk. Grace went off-course during her Standard run (my fault of course) so her title hopes had to wait until the next day.
Sunday was a much dryer day although windy with still some mud on the courses
.
P-2 Standard was our first run of the day and it went very smooth and clean and fast for a
1st & 'Q' and Performance-2 Versatility Dog TITLE! I was very enthusiastic about this achievement but just a little sad that Maxx had not also reached this level yet, he has been soooo close so often. But we still had two runs left, Snooker and Jumpers, which were destined to happen both at the same time in different rings. We ran Snooker first and were having a great time when a 'Beagle Moment' struck and Grace started sniffing all over the ring in search of some 'prey' that had been there in the last two days. I finally got her attention but time was up. We then had to go immediately to the other ring for the Jumpers run on a very tough twisty course where I ran the risk of getting lost. Grace had a good run and took 2nd with a 'Q' for her third P-3 Qualifying run.
